Despite a rocky year of programming, the highest rated show on OWN is African American reality show, “Sweetie Pie’s” is about family and food. I can’t believe Oprah has the audacity to joke that she doesn’t want to be ‘Roots’ channel. ‘Roots’ was the highest rated mini-series back in the day. I guess she doesn’t want OWN to succeed. I’m not implying that all OWN shows needs to appeal to African Americans, but it is shortsighted to not pick up good quality shows which just happen to have African Americans starring in them. Doesn’t she want to watch her OWN channel and see some brown faces like hers?! I guess OWN and Oprah don’t want any programming that is considered “too Black” and we are lucky that ‘Sweetie Pies’ is on the air. I wish Oprah good luck with organic farming in Hawaii!
